It celebrates the sanctity of Life, especially of the Unborn and the Aged. A modern family... all the pressures... And then, a stark and painful choice. Just when we think this is a modern morality play, with breathtaking audacity we are transported to Mexico in 1513 and the drama of Spanish conquistadores, human sacrifice, and the miraculous apparition of Our Blessed Virgin Mary of Guadalupe saw the conversion of 9 million Aztecs in seven years to Christianity. While acknowledging that much of Artaud and rsquo;s thought was contradictory, we can take the notion of a and ldquo;body without organs and rdquo; and find it and rsquo;s impossibility is a liberating concept for anyone involved in artistic and creative thinking and working. We need to make sure there is a defined Acting Space. The entering and exiting the space allows students to disassociate from the confines of one and rsquo;s own socialization and become the Object of their own creation and observe it in a detached sense while outside the space. This is for protection. It is to allow for freedom within space to do whatever comes via impulse; but to then withdraw and become their personal selves outside of the space. The aim is to discard the vanity that prevents people from fully engaging in the moment of creation. It is the moment of creation we are seeking to find. That moment of obliteration of personal confinement! The workshop requires people have a healthy and predisposition towards role play and contact with others. The use of balloons, silence, working with eyes closed and a lot of physical contact along with explosive vocal and emotional ranges will be engaged. Sunset Boulevard became an instant smash hit, a multi-award winning success (nominated for 11 Academy Awards and winning 3), an all-time classic and is regularly featured on the and lsquo;top ten and rsquo; lists of best movies ever made. In 1993, Lord Andrew Lloyd Weber (Phantom of the Opera, CATS, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar) lovingly turned this movie into a lush and richly scored musical, retaining its bite, its glamour, and all of its famous dialogue ( and ldquo;I am big and ndash;it and rsquo;s the pictures that got small! and rdquo;). The show, famous for its magnificent sets, costumes and technical virtuosity, has been a vehicle for some of the greatest musical theatre divas of the modern age - Glenn Close, Patti Lupone, Elaine Paige, Betty Buckley, Petula Clark, Diahann Carroll, Rita Moreno, Debra Byrne, Maria Mercedes, Judi Connelli. And now, CLOC proudly announces the Australasian non-professional premiere of this spectacular, larger-than-life tale of a faded and deluded movie star and the fantasy world she creates around her as she prepares for her triumphant screen comeback (or as Norma says I hate that word - its a return). The story is based on the coat of many colors story of Joseph from the Hebrew Bibles Book of Genesis. This was the first Lloyd Webber and Rice musical to be performed publicly. Joseph was first presented as a 15-minute pop cantata at Colet Court School in London in 1968 and was recorded as a concept album in 1969. After the success of the next Lloyd Webber and Rice piece, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph received stage productions beginning in 1970 and expanded recordings in 1971 and 1972. While still undergoing various transformations and expansions, the musical was produced in the West End in 1973, and in its full format was recorded in 1974 and opened on Broadway in 1982. Several major revivals and a 1999 straight-to-video film, starring Donny Osmond, followed. The show has very little spoken dialogue; it is almost completely sung-through. Its family-friendly storyline, universal themes and catchy music have resulted in numerous productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; according to the Really Useful Group, by 2008 more than 20,000 schools and amateur theatre groups had successfully put on productions. Spanning twenty years across post war France and Italy, Aspects of Love tells a tale of passion, love and loss over three generations of one family. Alex Dillingham, a young student travelling through France, falls in love with the alluring and wordly actress Rose Vibert. As the pair embarks on a passionate affair, the unexpected arrival of Alexs much older uncle George changes their lives and those around them forever, as they all come to appreciate that love changes everything. From the prolific pen of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber (book and music), Don Black and Charles Hart (lyrics), whose names are associated with some of the most loved and successful musicals of all times (including Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, Evita, Cats, Song and Dance) comes a rich score full of beautiful harmonies, lush melodies and glorious love songs. So begins one of the most memorable openings to one of the most famous and well-loved musicals of all time. The simple but universal story of family love and unity and the struggle to hold on to one and rsquo;s beliefs in the midst of change and chaos, has endeared generations of critics and audiences alike, who have made Fiddler on the Roof one of the most successful shows in the history of musical theatre. Based on the folk stories of Sholom Aleichem, the show is filled with well-known show-stopping tunes, including Tradition, Matchmaker Matchmaker, Sunrise Sunset, Sabbath Prayer, To Life and of course, the unforgettable If I Were a Rich Man, not to mention the fabulous dances including the famous Bottle Dance! Fiddler on the Roof now returns to Melbourne and to a location and a theatre that is its perfect and natural home - the National Theatre in St Kilda. Join us as we welcome Tevye, his wife Golde, and their five (yes, five!) daughters back to Melbourne in May 2011..
